Kibbutz week 6/

English

Today is Sunday ok not really, but lets just pretend it is.
Alot has happened since the last time. First of all, the winner of the recipe competition is the 22time winner of the Jewish Grandmother of the year. Sweta!
I will cook it this week of and upload a photo next Sunday.
Talking about Cooking, yesterday we had a Master chef typ cooking competitions Team Red Vs Team Blue, as always the team with the most money, in this case the red team, won although we had the better menu
Mix Salad and Deep fried sweet potatoes with tomatoes and cheese, Spaghetti with a cream- tomato sauce and a nice cold cookie cake vs
Fried vegetables chocolate fondu and the same cold cake.
The competitions was fun and we all had a great time.

Besides that, we went on a small trip again last Tuesday, from where we were standing we had an amazing view (I've said that quite a few times but its true)
We could also see the work of a an artist who each year creates a painting in the field, this year: Homer Simpsons! Check the picture below it is hard to see but its really cool once you do.
After that we drove to a natural hot spring, it had those fish that eat away your dead skin, I stayed away from that, I have an agreements with the animal world, Don't eat me, then I won't eat you. Unfortunately not all animals keep that arrangement Speaking about being eaten, my Dear Calves are still trying to eat at me, but I've gotten used to it. in fact its kind of cute!
Here are few things I've learned about cows this week.
They kiss, I am serious, cows kiss each other, or it really looks like they are kissing. Unfortunately I seem to be unable to take a picture, every time i get out my camera they stop! As if they know that I'm trying to take a Picture.
Also apparently male Calves are less susceptible to diseases, they are fed with the contaminated milk from the big cows (so the milk that cannot be sold)
while their female counterparts are fed with powdered milk that smells exactly like Nido.
I've also established that the bulls are harder to feed, not only because they are stronger and thereby harder to force feed, they just refuse the bottle in the first place, one they are done drinking, they are done!
The females on the other had actually want to drink, they are just too lazy to do it on their own

English
Shalom Everbody
I really didn't think it would come to this, but I got to say: I am running out of things to write about!
I am simply settling in to kibbutz life. I get up and go for breakfast, go to work, have lunch, return to work (if required), come back and sleep for an hour, go to Hebrew lessons when we have them, go do some sport, have dinner, get the job for the next day, chill with the group and sleep.
Sound boring right? for whatever reason it is not and time flies incredibly fast, I have noticed that I've been in Israel for  close one and a half month and I barely feel like I've been here for more than a week! Still as I said when I first arrived in the kibbutz, the lifestyle here is interesting and worth the experience, but I could not spend more than two month here. Dear Germans please don't hate me for this. The temperatures are starting to drop a little while ago we had up to 40 during the day and in the high 20 and night, and now we have high 30s during the day and very low 20s night. It even rained here on Friday, well not actually rain, more like a 10 second drizzle and as a Hamburger I am not permitted to define that as Rain! The temperature drop comes at a welcome time as many off us started doing sports and we try to get in some exercise before dinner or just after work, which used to be absolutely impossible.

I got to work with the baby cows again today, and one tried to eat my phone and then me. I've kind of gotten used to them trying to eat me, it is always the toothless cows and I guess it like with small babies who are growing their first teeth, which is fine but why me? It really complicated my job.
I've also learned that when twin cows are born, but they are not of the same sex the female cow will be barren, and will therefore be slaughtered.
Yap working with the cows as thought me a lot and no matter how often I do it, it is still fun.

I must add that I am getting really tired of the food here, In the beginning it was nice, but by now its just boring and dull, today the Pasta was burned and under cooked at the same time, how did they that? Isn't harder to burn and under cook Pasta at the same time then to make it some how  edible? That is why
I am starting contest. The winner can a price from the holy land!
Post a recipe of a vegetarian dish in the comments below or on facebook, or whatsapp me or what ever until next Sunday.
I will then choose the best recipe cook it and post a photo of it a week later (so in two weeks)
Thank you, have fun and be creative!

Shalom zusammen

Kibbutz week 4

English

Today blog post will be a little bit shorter than usual, mostly because we worked alot the past week.
Luckily my prediction was wrong and I mostly got to work with my baby cows rather than go to the factory.
I used a fairly simple trick, I knew before hand that certain individuals would not go to work there although they were assigned to,
so I asked to be contacted in case someone didn't show up, and sure enough this got me out of three days of boring factory work.
There are two major differences between the two jobs, besides one being more fun than the other.
When I work with the cows I feel useful because I can see what I are doing and for what, and secondly I actually learn something too.
It also seems like Avnar (the man whos name I believed to be Avdir is actually called Avnar) appreciates having people around to whom he doesn't need to explain what to do, also he is a great guy and a good boss.

On Tuesday we did not work we went up to the Golan heights. This time we didn't hike, we took a ski lift, only we didn't go there to ski as there is no snow there at this time of year anyway, we went there to get a great view over northern Israel and south Lebanon and i guess so that we get an idea of how important the golan heights are. although there was no snow up there, it was fairly cold on the upside the air was real great.
From there we went to a bowling alley and an ice skating ring. Obviously I did not go on the Ice!
all in all a fun trip.

Shabbat we spent in a settlement inside the disputed territories aka west bank.
We were divided into host family, most of whom were Americans from what i could tell.
My family was really nice and great hosts, but there is nothing much to say about the sabbat

well that's it for this week,
I will try to make the next one longer and more interesting and to take more pictures!
Thanks for Reading
Good night

Gute Nacht

First Month Review

English
I am so proud of myself, its Sunday and I posted on time!
Recently I have been asked what was the best experience I had so far.
So i started thinking and realized it is more complicated than i had expected,
not because the program is boring, it is actually the opposite.
finally I discovered that my first impression turned out to be correct all along,
although it might be alittle bit disappointing to some of you, the greatest experience I had and still have is wearing my kippah!
It is about the freedom to express yourself your religion and tour identity freely and safely without being judged for and if you think "you can do that in Germany , no problem!" I am Sorry, you are mistaken. there are three countries you can wear a kippah with no or few problems
1. Israel
2. Rwanda
3. USA (depending on where you are)
If I had to choose a second place, i would go for the week in the eternal city, the city of gold -Jerusalem.
on one hand there is something incredibly spiritual about the city on the other hand we had a lot of fun in that week like the scavenger hunt.

After the first month I thought it might be time for a quick pre and review. By now I can say, the program is really fun and incredibly challenging,
for some reason it still feel like summer camp or something similar.
The guys and girls in my group are really cool people, and as far as i can tell no one had a fight yet in fact we all get along great, and really try to always involve everyone in to anything we are doing, which at times can be hard as the dominant languages here are German and Russian.
Our supervisors are also doing a great job, It cannot be easy to deal with all of us and with all the problems that arise in a group like this, just going from one place to the other is a logistical challenge, although they are lucky because most of us grew up in Germany and keep German time.
I enjoy the idea behind it, and the way it is set up ( the program). I would say the draw back is you have to decide between maarva and MDA
(army and red cross) which for many is not an easy choice (I choose the army by the way but that's another topic) Surprisingly i find myself looking forward to the yeshiva (religious school) in which we will be from November to December. It will be in the old of Jerusalem, and we  will live in the Jewish quarter.
Finally I must say that Kibbutz is cool, I really like it here, the fairly simple life, the trust, the family feeling, however I could not live here.
By the Looks of things, not very many young people do.

I am sorry that there is not much I can write about this time around. One thing I forgot to mention last week, on our way to Eilat we stopped by Makhtesh Ramon. Named after the famous pilot and first Israeli astronaut to go to space Illan Ramon (Ramon was killed in the Colombia accident). A Makhtesh is a natural crater, created through erosion over thousand of years. this type of crater only exist in the Negev and Sinai desert which is why there is no English word for Makhtesh. the best part about it was, that I had visited the same place a year earlier with Taglit.

last but not least I have been working in the factory the past few days and sadly it looks like ill be working there the entire week. At least I will have different jobs and it might not get as dull as the previous ones.
hope you enjoy the new look and post.

Gute Nacht
ENGLISH
Alright, I know my definition of regular updates is a little bit of but I have a good excuse.
To start, on Saturday, I had my first great dinner with my family, that I had not see in 10 years (almost to the day)
and yet it was a great evening, so in case anyone of them is reading this, at the moment: Thank you very much again!!
As I have mentioned, on Sunday we drove to Eilat.
Eilat is Israel's most southern (or the other way round  southernmost ?) City and is locked directly at the Red sea, from which you can see Jordens beach and mountains (not only because of the huge flag and egypt on the other side. When the weather is good, you can see the shadows of saudi arabias Mountains. On the Sunday we arrived, we were free to explore the city. On the next day however we had the most difficult and exhausting hike I have ever been on. For five hours we climbed the hills of eilat. As a reward we were taken to a beach at the sea and I feel a sleep. that evening was also free with the only problem being that we at to get up at 4 am the next day. By 6 am we reached the top of the mountain, and watched the sunrise as we recite the morning blessings. Although the way down was not easy, it was a piece of cake compared to what we had endured the previous day. After breakfast we made a pit stop at the dead sea
but I obviously did go on.
Because i was so tired, I asked if you could work in the factory today, at this point im warning all school students Finish High school, Go to uni an ausbildung. Unfortunately I'm working there again tomorrow, and i am praying it is not the same work again, or I just might go Crazy.
Since there won't be much going on the next days and because the week is nearly over, I am confident that I will be able to boost a new blog on sunday, and from then on wards on a regular basis.
Good Night
